5. Kairi Sane

The inaugural Mae Young Classic saw WWE recruit talent from all over to battle in a star-studded tournament in an attempt to earn an NXT contract. Kairi Sane was to the Mae Young Classic what Kota Ibushi was to the Cruiserweight Classic in that she had a reputation for being one of the best wrestlers in the world prior to coming to WWE and that her addition to their roster would be game-changing for women's wrestling.

Unsurprisingly, she ran through her competition and captured the crown on 12 September by beating Shayna Bazler. However, Sane was already signed to a contract months earlier, and her MYC victory only further established her as one to watch in NXT's women's division. She made her NXT TakeOver debut over Survivor Series weekend, and while she fell short of securing the title, she put forth an excellent effort.

Besides, it was way too early for her to become champion, and once she does, it isn't far-fetched to say she might have a lengthy reign with the strap similar to Asuka. A main roster run is inevitable as well, where she's bound to be a big deal.
