1. The Title Run
On November 20, 2011, CM Punk defeated Alberto Del Rio to become a two time WWE Champion. As of the Royal Rumble, CM Punk will have held that title for 434 days. That is the longest WWE Championship reign in 25 years. Longer than John Cena, Randy Savage and Diesel. He currently holds the sixth longest WWE Championship reign in history. The five names above him are Pedro Morales (1,027 days), Bruno Sammartino (1,237 days), Hulk Hogan (1,474 days), Bob Backlund (2,135 days) and Bruno Sammartino again (2,803 days). How did those superstars get such long reigns? They were champions before the current RAW era. Before weekly live television and monthly pay-per-views when titles began to change hands on almost a monthly basis. They only defended their titles once every couple of months. Some people would say that that made their reigns more prestigious because a title match was more rare. My thought is that it makes CM Punk's reign more prestigious because he has defended his title more times in the 14 months he has had it than the others did in 3 years as champion. CM Punk has cemented his name in history and proven with this title reign that he truly is The Best In The World.
