WWE: 5 Reasons Why A John Cena Heel-Turn Won't Solve Anything
2. Would Anyone Truly Believe It?
Whatever else you may think of him, John Cena is a class act. A genuinely good human being who has sacrificed so much of his personal life and his physical health for the WWE that his work ethic is inspiring. Especially compared to a certain straight edge superstar who decided to quit when he was needed during the most important time of the year for the WWE and it's fans. Jon Cena is the face of WWE's anti-bullying campaign, he has visited more terminally ill children than any wrestler in history, he has portrayed a character so morally straight-laced and virtuous that adult fans have turned on him because they don't consider him a tough guy. Hell I hate the John Cena character as much as anyone. But I respect John Cena the person. As we all should. Now tell me this. Why would the man in the picture above suddenly turn evil? Every heel in the WWE has a motive. Randy Orton wants to be the face of the WWE and he's being controlled by the voices in his head telling him to injure people. Triple H wants whats "best for business" even if it means not giving the fans what they want. The Shield fight for justice. Bray Wyatt wants to save us from reality by teaching us the ways of his family (or whatever). Brock Lesnar simply wants to conquer the WWE. All heels. All with motives. What the hell would Cena's motive be? The most obvious reason would be the fans. He gives his life for them and they still boo him. Sounds simple enough, except Cena has repeatedly stated on and off TV that he loves the mixed reactions, that the boos are music to his ears. When would enough be enough if he's happily tolerated it for ten years? We came very close to a heel turn during his feud with the Rock last year. Cena failed to defeat the Great One at WrestleMania 28. It ate at him for over a year until he got his rematch at WrestleMania 29 and he told the Rock that he absolutely had to beat him. No matter what. This brought back memories of Stone Cold Steve Austin telling Rock the same thing before WrestleMania 17, where Austin was so desperate to defeat the Rock that he turned heel and joined forces with long time rival Mr McMahon. Alas, Cena did not turn heel at WrestleMania 29. One other thing. Cena has always prided himself on the fact that he "Never backs down and never quits". Heels are typically supposed to clear the ring whenever the face arrives, or whenever the numbers are too great for them. Can you imagine Cena suddenly deciding that he doesn't want to face Daniel Bryan for example? If he ever turns heel, how could WWE possibly book it so that we the fans could believe it?
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
