WWE: 5 Returns That Rocked And 5 That Fizzled

1. Hulk Hogan (1983)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYqSRF-9DP0 After an initial heel run in the WWF as a rookie, young Hulk Hogan set out for greener pastures via the AWA and improbably became a movie star. Using his natural heel charisma, he scored the plum role of THUNDERLIPS the Ultimate Male in Rocky III (and as a sidenote, whoever creates character names in those movies is an unsung genius) and suddenly found himself the hottest property in wrestling. Unfortunately for Verne Gagne, that meant he was suddenly out of the AWA€™s budget, despite Verne€™s best efforts to convince him to take the World title. Versions of the story depend on who€™s telling it, but in 1983 Hulk left the AWA and turned down the belt, choosing to sign with the rising WWF instead. And just like that, Hogan ran out on TV and saved Bob Backlund from a Samoan beating, suddenly finding himself on top of the promotion. With Backlund on the way out of the promotion and Vince needing a new face of the company, Hogan won the World title for the first time in January of 1984, and things were never the same again.
