WWE: 6 Non-Attitude Era Events That Cost Linda McMahon The Election

2. Vince McMahon Defeats God

Remember when Vince McMahon faced the lord almighty in a tag team match? After Shawn Michaels had defeated McMahon in a Street Fight at Wrestlemania 2006, Vince was looking for revenge. Vince claimed that the only reason Michaels was able to beat was because of an "act of God". Now whilst many wouldn't think that a legend like Shawn Michaels would have any difficulty defeating a 60-year old man with no wrestling experience, but just roll with it. Vince, however, was rather literal by his usage of the term "act of God" and booked a match where he and his son Shane would take on HBK... and God. Over the next weeks, McMahon would then prove his worth over God by starting his own religion of "McMahonism", where midcarders such as the Spirit Squad and Shelton Benjamin flocked to join. Vince would then go to a church and cut a promo on God, challenging him to strike him down. After McMahon wasn't struck down, he proclaimed that God had abandoned his tag partner after God's apparent failure to produce the goods on the smiting. So come Backlash, we have the McMahons in the ring awaiting the arrival of Michaels and the lord almighty. And then... a beam of light came down on the ramp, representing the Almighty Creator. He (or she, depending on your on views of God) came to a choir song and slowly the light of beam came down the ramp. Vince, however, determined we weren't having any of this, God would have to make his entrance "WWE-style". God's theme would change to a instrutmental version of "Somebody Call My Momma" (so potentially, Ernest Miller or Brodus Clay could be God). He would make his appearance into the ring... and then was promptly forgotten for the rest of the match, as it became a handicap between Michaels and the McMahons. Not even silly invisible man spots done to the McMahons. Just another handicap that ended in Michaels being defeated. However, on the plus side, God was protected in the fact he wasn't pinned.
