WWE: 6 Reasons Why Ratings No Longer Matter

2. Television Is A Dying Platform

Thanks to the progression of technology, television is no longer the only source for visual stimuli. Although it had a good run (better than most), it has become an out-dated medium and is slowly but surely going the same way as 8 track tapes, cassettes, Betamax,VHS, DVD's and Analogue. In this digital age it is all about streaming online, which as of this moment is not covered by any standard global ratings system. So any ratings, high or low, that the WWE (or RAW specifically) might get as of 2014 simply are no longer relevant in the larger scheme of things. In another ten years television will be a thing of the past and ratings like they are getting now will be more than likely considered a top performing television show. If it even exists by then. And unlike other sporting franchises, after a slow and shaky start the WWE has embraced its online presence to the point where they are leaders in the industry. Even a lot of major networks don't have the online presence that the WWE has. And thanks to media conglomerates like the Murdoch empire or Viacom who constantly fight to have their content removed from the internet or have yet to even establish any real presence in terms of internet content (try finding a full episode of any of their shows online without a significant price hike, they even ban clips on youtube), the WWE could literally corner the market in the future. This could even mean that RAW could possibly one day be taken off standard television for good. But even with all of these instances as to why ratings designated for one area of the world no longer matter, recent developments in the WWE have all but confirmed this article in full.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
