WWE: 7 Failures With Sheamus' Return

7. Predictable Return

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5YAX7PUgeU Everybody knows that the best returns are those that come out of nowhere. The Rock€™s return in 2011 had an extremely loud crowd reaction, and part of that was the fact that no one saw it coming. Once again, John Cena€™s return at the 2008 Royal Rumble was unpredictable, as everyone figured he still had to take a few months off to recover from his torn pectoral muscle. In Sheamus€™ case, well, everyone could tell he was going to be back at the Rumble in October. The €œwow factor€ is lost when a return is predictable. When Sheamus ran down the ramp at the Rumble, everyone€™s predictions should have been put to question, because theoretically, people shouldn€™t be considering Sheamus as a possible winner. But when he walked out, people didn€™t care, because they had already considered Sheamus returning and winning, and they had already ignored the possibility. Sure, a predictable return can still end up being a good one if the guy is booked well afterwards, like Edge€™s in the 2010 Rumble (when he actually won the match and challenged the World Champion at WrestleMania), which wasn€™t Sheamus€™ case. The point is that unpredictability always adds to returns, and Sheamus€™ subpar return could€™ve used some, it just wasn€™t to be.
