For well over a decade the two AAA alumni travelled across the globe putting on one classic match after another. The most famous and well received of these would take place in WCW at Halloween Havoc 1997.
In the opening match of WCWs annual October PPV the pair spent 15 minutes dazzling viewers with high flying and lucha libre inspired offence, most of which was completely new to an American audience. In the end Mysterio would pick up the victory and retain the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.
1997 was an absolutely stacked year in that year alone we saw the first ever Hell in a Cell Match, Japanese Wrestling at its peak and the Bret Hart vs Steve Austin Wrestlemania XIII masterpiece. The fact that this match was regarding by many as the Match of the Year is testament to its brilliance.
Seven years on the two would meet yet again this time on the March 18th 2004 episode of Smackdown. Just four days prior Eddie had successfully defended his newly won WWE Championship against Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania XX; this would be his first defence since retaining the title.
Due to nagging injuries and spending most of their time in WWE having to adapt to much larger opponents and a different style, this match is set out completely different and much more mat based then the one from Halloween Havoc. In a testament to the sheer versatility of the two performers at hand however its still arguably just as good.
In the end Eddie would retain the title with a rather unassuming rollup, the few would continue to feud on and off throughout 2004 - 2005 including a ludicrous storyline where Eddie claimed to be the father of Rey Mysterios real life son Dominic. If this wasnt the crazy world of professional wrestling you would I was making that last part up.
