WWE: 7 Most Hyped Wrestlemania Main Events Of All Time
7. Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar - WWE Championship - Wrestlemania XIX
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ovcKfSuxbY This was a match that had been teased time and time again, but was held off until the show of shows. Brock Lesnar was one of the two greatest amateur wrestlers in WWE history (winning the 2000 NCAA championship), and so immediately upon his arrival to WWE, people wanted to see him square off against the other amazing amateur wrestler, Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle. On one episode of Smackdown, months before Wrestlemania XIX, Angle made it obvious that the WWE was planning this match when he asked the crowd "Who wants to see Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar square off?!" On another occasion, closer to the big pay per view, it looked like we were actually going to see these two stars collide, but at the last second Angle swerved the crowd and sent his look-a-like brother in to attack Lesnar. The stars ultimately aligned for the big pay per view and it looked like these two masters of the mat would finally square off. Lesnar had won the 2003 Royal Rumble, guaranteeing his main event slot at 'Mania, and at the same pay per view, Angle retained the WWE title in a hard-fought match with Chris Benoit. This match was so hyped that Monday Night Raw had an unprecedented 30 minute overrun (a sort of "overtime" period after the show is supposed to end), and in the days leading up to 'Mania fans were seemingly ready to explode with excitement over the bout. For a few moments, it seemed a neck injury would keep the Olympic hero out of the match, but Angle dug deep and kept up his end of the bargain. Everytime Angle landed on his back, the thousands in attendance and millions watching at home grimaced with worry. As for the match itself, it was a tremendous mat classic, and was one of those instances where the hype was lived up to.
