WWE: 7 Memorable Heel Victories At WrestleMania

6. WrestleMania 2000 - Triple H Retains The WWE Title

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x24bs4_the-rock-vs-hhh-vs-mick-foley-vs-th_sport It's another Triple H match where he walked into the event as the WWE Champion. A McMahon was in every corner with Stephanie supporting Hunter, Vince backing The Rock, Shane on Big Show's side and Linda McMahon bringing Mick Foley out of his one month retirement to give him a shot at becoming WWE Champion again. For the previous 15 WrestleManias, the good guys won the last match on the show. Going into this one, The Rock was clearly the top babyface that had to fight against the forces of evil and the assumption was that he would walk out as WWE Champion. It was a no brainer. If there were polls for fan votes at the time, chances are that 90% of the fans would have picked Rock and that goes for the "smart" fans too. Instead of that Rock win, Hunter retained. Vince McMahon turned heel on Rock, hit him with a couple of chair shots and that was it. In the end, the McMahons were all in it together at least until the next WrestleMania. The Rock ended the night getting some revenge by beating up the McMahons, but he didn't leave WrestleMania 2000 (or 16) as the WWE Champion. He left a loser that had to wait another month until Backlash to hold the biggest prize again. It was a move that likely pissed off a lot people at the time, but when you consider how successful Backlash and Judgment Day were in the months that followed it's likely not a decision that WWE regrets too much.
