WWE: 7 Recent Tag Team Breakups That Didn't Help Anyone

6. Titus O'Neil & Darren Young (Prime Time Players)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcCpUEmwW4w This is one that is pretty recent. Titus O'Neil teamed with Darren Young for about two years. They started together on NXT, got called up to the main roster, worked as a heel team (remember Abraham Washington getting fired?) and then they became babyfaces. Towards the end of their run together, Young got a lot of attention for announcing that he was gay. The feeling was that the team would finally get a run with the tag titles. It wasn't just because Young had the courage to come out. It was because they deserved a run with the titles. That tag title run never happened. Instead, O'Neil was seen as somebody that could break out as a singles heel character so they had him turn on Young out of nowhere. It led to a match between the two at Elimination Chamber that O'Neil won and ever since then neither guy has done much of anything. It was a major mistake to split the team. O'Neil might have some success as a singles heel, but it's unlikely Young will make an impact as a face. This is one of those teams that should have stayed together for a couple more years at least. Why rush the breakup? It didn't help anyone.
