WWE: 8 Most Glaring Omissions From The Undertaker's Streak

5. The Undertaker vs. Rock - WrestleMania 29

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fANmqVzbf1k WrestleMania 28 drew the biggest pay-per-view buyrate in wrestling history. With The Rock and John Cena at the top of the card, it made perfect sense to book a rematch (despite the fact that it was billed as "once in a lifetime"), but by the time it went down at WrestleMania 29, fans were already bored of the idea of John Cena vs. The Rock: round two. A big part of the reason the rematch felt so tiring was that the build from the first match lasted an entire year. Most then assumed that they would lock up again at Mania 29, which meant another 365 days of "anticipating" the match. It became draining. And since they were going to battle once more, it became increasingly obvious that Cena would win this time around. With Rock leaving to film another movie, there's no way that the company would let him leave with the title, and by going 2-0 on their golden child. What would have made the show feel more unique would have been having The Rock battle The Undertaker. The two had fought in the past, but that was back in the Attitude Era. By WrestleMania 29 the two had firmly established themselves as legends, and had gone on to have two incredibly different careers. Rock could say that he's held titles, he's made huge movies, and he's defeated John Cena, but he wants to be the one to end The Undertaker's streak. It would have been a battle of two true icons. Yes, CM Punk vs. Taker was a great match, but that encounter also felt a lot less special after Punk lost the WWE title. It was no "streak vs. streak" match with Punk's 400+ days of holding the title on the line, it was a feud that revolved around the ashes of Paul Bearer. The build was tacky and left a lot to be desired. As of now, The Rock and Taker have never battled at WrestleMania. With The People's Champ among one of the most popular wrestlers of all time, it seems like a glaring oversight. Had WWE held off on a few of the more recent Cena vs. Punk matches, they could have saved those two for Mania 29, and been given two classic matches on the show. Punk vs. Taker could have been delayed (assuming he didn't quit), and part two of Rock vs. Cena could have been saved for another time. But now, Rock vs. Taker will almost for sure never happen again.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
