WWE: 8 Most Glaring Omissions From The Undertaker's Streak

2. The Undertaker vs. Steve Austin - WrestleMania XIX

Steve Austin and The Undertaker had a series of great battles during the Attitude Era. The feud not only helped solidify Austin as a main-eventer, but proved Taker could take his cartoonish character and transition successfully into a more risque era. They were great for each other's careers, which is why it would have been fitting for Austin's last match to have been against The Dead Man. Sure, Rock was also a great choice for Austin's final opponent, but there were a couple situations in play that weren't ideal. The first is that Rock wasn't a full-time wrestler at that point. Just one month later at Backlash, he would be taking another vacation to go film a movie. Taker, on the other hand, would still have years of full-time work ahead of him. That means Austin losing clean to Taker would actually have done more for him than it would have for Rock. We had also seen Austin and Rock battle two other times at Mania, so the idea of a third wasn't all that exciting. They did manage to have a great match, but the odds are good that Taker and Austin could have put on a classic as well. You can imagine that Austin would have had no problem putting Taker over on the way out. To this day, he shows tremendous respect for him whenever he talks about him. A win over the biggest star from the Attitude Era would have helped solidify the importance of the streak at that time much more than a victory over Big Show and A-Train did.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
