WWE: 8 Shocking Developments Since WrestleMania 30

8. Rise Of Paul Heyman As Brock Fades

When Brock Lesnar defeated the Undertaker at WrestleMania, he became the biggest story in professional wrestling. The next night, he and Paul Heyman cut a blistering promo that established Lesnar as €œThe One€ (in 21-1). And then Lesnar left, not to be seen since. Granted, WWE has to be extremely judicious in how they use Brock€™s very limited number of appearances. But coming off such an epic moment, riding high on the wave of ending The Streak, wouldn€™t it have made sense to have Brock continue the momentum and compete at Extreme Rules (for the third consecutive year)? They could have set something up that night or even used Heyman as a stand-in on Raw throughout the month to build to something. At the same time, unless you have a suitable, substantial feud in mind, keeping Brock off television probably is a good idea, and this is where Paul Heyman has been absolutely glorious in his appearances. He repeatedly reminds the audience that Brock Lesnar conquered The Streak. Repeatedly. For three minutes straight. It nearly incites the crowd and keeps Lesnar€™s name front and center on WWE programming every week. He also finally has a true Paul Heyman Guy in Cesaro, which has given him another opportunity to grab the microphone and dominate. He and Zeb Coulter had a barn-burner of a debate on Smackdown last week, showing that Heyman is positively golden on the stick right now. As good as we all know Heyman is, it would have been hard to predict that he would have a new client and be this switched on.

Scott is a former journalist and longtime wrestling fan who was smart enough to abandon WCW during the Monday Night Wars the same time as the Radicalz. He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
