WWE: 8 Most Shocking Results In Extreme Rules History

6. Jack Swagger Beats Randy Orton - Extreme Rules 2010

It seems hard to believe now, but WWE really did believe Jack Swagger would be a future main event icon. Swagger was set on the push of his life in 2010, he won the Money In The Bank Contract at WrestleMania 26, going on to successfully cash it on Chris Jericho to become World Champion on the March 30th Smackdown. WWE supplemented this with a successful title defence against Jericho and Edge on Smackdown a few weeks later. The push didn't stop there. On April 25th, Swagger defended the belt against Randy Orton in an 'Extreme Rules' match at the Extreme Rules pay per view. Shockingly, Swagger beat Orton cleanly, reversing an RKO into a gut wrench powerbomb. This marked wins over three WWE legends in the space of a month, Orton, Edge and Jericho, all defeated by Swagger. You can't ask for much of a better push than that! For Swagger though, he just clearly didn't have what it takes to be a main event star. He squandered everything WWE gave him in that initial spot, ending up in lower midcard feuds by the end of the year. The company tried again with Swagger in 2012, pushing him hard as the number one contender to the world title at WrestleMania 29. Once again, Swagger failed miserably, even getting busted for a DUI during the build up. His Extreme Rules victory over Randy Orton in 2010 was wasted effort.
