WWE: 8 Things That Make The Shield So Good?

8. There Is No Leader

The SHIELD has no leader, when you consider past teams such as Evolution, The Four Horsemen, The Nexus, The Straight Edge Society; there was a clear distinction between the leader of the group, and the remaining members. We already know that Triple H was the leader in Evolution, Ric Flair was the top dog in the horsemen, Punk was the head of The Straight Edge Society and Wade Barrett was the leader of one of the most intimidating groups in recent years. Your bigger stables actually have had informal pecking orders to some extent at least. For example if we jump ship to TNA, you have Bully Ray as the head of the team Aces & Eights whilst Devon and Mr. Anderson would be considered as the second tier superstars in the stable, whilst third tier guys would include Knux and Bischoff. Likewise, Hogan was evidently the leader of the New World Order, whilst Scott Hall and Kevin Nash would be categorised as the second tier superstars, showing that in bigger groups, there is always someone higher unless you are the leader. In Evolution it was clear that Triple H was the leader of the stable and most recently you could include The Nexus as an example as everyone knows that the leader was Wade Barrett, there is no doubt about it; followed by David Otunga and so on. The difference is that for the first time in a very long time, we are seeing three equal standard superstars; there is no pecking order whatsoever. The SHIELD is a different breed because there would be absolutely no reason whatsoever for one of the members to rebel against the group, they are in it for the same cause; they are a shield against injustice. The fact that there is no leader makes this group much more effective, as we know that all three are of equal importance and that no one man is more dangerous than the other, and this reason alone is enough to suggest that the fact that there is no one leader, it makes the group much more dangerous.
