5. Too Many Stars Left In Limbo (Sheamus, Swagger, Del Rio)
We are used to seeing the February pay per view give us an indication of who will be doing what at Wrestlemania. Usually Elimination Chamber serves to give talent a rub going into the hot period of business. Far from it with Elimination Chamber 2014 however, which instead either left top workers out in the cold or even worse buried them. The notable stars left in limbo following the booking last night include Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger and Christian. For Del Rio and Swagger they will really feel the pinch. Last year they headlined Mania in the World Title match, however they look to be going nowhere this year. Both men were made to be complete jobbers last night, working only to put over their respective opponents Big E and Batista. In the case of Del Rio he was destroyed and made to look weak. The devastating booking has now left him with little real worth for the Showcase Of The Immortals come April. Christian and Sheamus are in similar positions, they gained little from their Chamber match and looked like they competed merely to make the numbers up. The question is now, how does the WWE rehabilitate these stars? They have Sheamus on a million dollar downside contract, so expect him to compete at Mania regardless of his non-existent effectiveness as a face right now. Along with Del Rio and possibly the other names mentioned, WWE are going to want to use Sheamus in New Orleans, but have arguably damaged these men too much at Elimination Chamber for them to carry any real threat in April. Yet more short-sighted booking from the creative department overshadowing Wrestlemania 30.
