WWE: 9 Story Lines In Early 1999 That Sucked

1. Vince Is The Higher Power

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNgxyL5zEAk Out of all the angles in 1999, The High Power angle encompassed them all. The Undertaker and Vince McMahon had been feuding for over a year and in 1999, Taker had the specific purpose of taking the WWF from McMahon and waged war with the Corporation. The story-line included sacrifices, forced marriages, abductions, a mock hanging, bloodbaths and more. It was a blood feud in every sense of the phrase. Even when Shane created the Corporate Ministry, the Undertaker/Vince dynamic was still there with Vince now as a face. In 1999, Undertaker started making references to serving a Higher Power. In May, the Higher Power was brought out clad in a red robe and showed his face to Austin. It was the culmination of a long road and on June 7th, the Higher Power was revealed to the world. The Higher Power was Vince McMahon. The person the Undertaker had been answering to in his feud with Vince McMahon was Vince McMahon. All to stick it to Steve Austin, who wasn't the WWF Champion at the time. After this bombshell, Linda and Stephanie came out and revealed that earlier in the day, they gave their 50% of the company to Steve Austin, who was the new CEO. So not 10 minutes after the reveal, Vince was one-upped. Vince and Shane won control of the company in a ladder match with Austin at King of the Ring, but not before Austin exercised his power and gave himself a WWF Title match on Raw the next night, which he won. So now Vince lost control of the WWF Title and the next month at Fully Loaded, was kicked out of his own company after Undertaker lost his rematch to Austin. The Corporate Ministry disbanded the next night and the entire Higher Power angle was a massive failure for the heels involved. 1999 was a memorable year for the WWF, most of it for good reasons built upon the good of the year before, but it was also memorable for many negative reasons.
