WWE: Analysis Of Every Wrestlemania

Wrestlemania IX - April 4, 1993

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs_BAN1AOKI Venue: Caeser's Palace, Las Vegas Attendance: 16,891 Jim Ross has been very outspoken about appearing at his first Wrestlemania in a toga but hey this was Wrestlemania at Caeser's Palace and Vince McMahon wasn't going to miss an opportunity to make his announcers look stupid. Bobby Heenan was excellent as always despite making his entrance on a Camel ... backwards. The card itself isn't considered one of the best with matches more fitting of an episode of RAW than Wrestlemania for the most part. However the near seventeen thousand fans in attendance seemed pretty entertained throughout. Matches included Shawn Michaels against Tatanka, Doink Vs Crush, The Steiner Brothers Vs The Headshrinkers, Mr Perfect Vs Lex Luger and Money Inc. Vs Hulk Hogan (we thought he'd retired?) and Brutus Beefcake. The main event was supposed to be Bret Hart losing the WWF Championship to Yokozuna but that was actually just the set up for Hogan to step in and completely unsanctioned defeat the new champion in a matter of seconds to win his before unheard of fifth WWF Championship. McMahon and co. realised their mistake and had Hogan drop the belt back to the once dominant heel at that year's King of the Ring but by then his credibility had already taken a hammering thanks to Hogan and his backstage politics. Despite being poorly received the buy rate for Wrestlemania IX was higher than any of the following four Wrestlemania's.
