WWE And Impact Wrestling: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Mar 5)
6. And The Worst Joke Of The Week Goes To...
....The New Day!
Sorry everyone. If you’re sick of me complaining about New Day (which is completely understandable) feel free to jump on over to slide No. 5 and we’ll catch up shortly. However, if you’re not, stick around for the next four paragraphs!
The thing is, just because a joke is timely doesn’t mean it’s a good joke. You still have to put some thought into the thing. But WWE loves pop culture humor, and New Day likes super obvious humor, so they joined forces to do an Oscar bit because of the fiasco from the night before. The big hook was they thought they were supposed to fight The Shining Stars—you know, the guys Big Show destroyed by himself—but soon discovered via the wrong envelope they were actually supposed to face Jinder Mahal and Rusev—you know, the guys they fought the previous week. Everyone in the crowd reacted to this bit as if they found out a loved one had died at that exact moment, or maybe that their shed was burnt to the ground.
Hey, you can’t get a hit if you don’t swing the bat, or score a 3-pointer if you don’t take a shot and all that stuff, but New Day misses….95 percent of the time? Is that too low? 98 percent?
Whatever number it is, these guys need to stop doing what they’re doing, because it’s ridiculously cringey these days. A heel turn would be fine, or becoming more of a serious act would be a nice change of pace too. But their over-acting, merchandise shilling, camera mugging shtick feels so tired. Again, these are three talented guys, but they’re giving us material that feels half-baked and isn’t as clever as they seem to think it is.
Well, that’s all for now. We’ll probably/likely talk about New Day again here next week.
