WWE And TNA: 6 Worst Moments Of The Week (July 12)

6. 150 Too Many

Congratulations Sheamus, according to the North American Wrestling Rankings Blog, you've won your 200th televised singles match, which makes you the first person to have done that since the rankings started in November of 2006! Wait a second, 200 singles matches? That sounds like a ridiculous amount of Sheamus...Let's do some math! That means The Celtic Warrior has been in about, on average, 50 singles matches a year, because Sheamus didn€™t debut until June 30, 2009. Keep in mind, this is only singles matches! Tag, triple threat, fatal four way and six-way Kiss Me Arse matches don't count. Doesn't that seem like a lot of Brogue Kicks and jokes about grabbing a pint? That shouldn't mean he should be proud, he should be concerned because he's dangerously overexposed! Now compare his match frequency to the TNA wrestler who has the most televised matches in that time, which is Kurt Angle with 176. So 176 Angle fights in nine years, or 308 Sheamus matches (200-64-44) in six years and seven days. Yes, WWE has more than twice the amount of programming, but as a whole, our attention spans have got shorter in that time. Which means these men and women get monotonous even faster. WWE is absolutely killing the golden goose. This goose is not only Sheamus, but the entire roster. Randy Orton, Kofi Kingston and Dolph Ziggler are all over 300 singles TV matches as well since 2006. Now think back, how many Rick Rude or Big Bossman outings did we see in the late 80s and early 90s? It made watching them feel special. But if you see Sheamus every single week for six years, that leads to monotony, and a stale product. Which is a big part of why Raw is doing 2.5 and 2.6s lately.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
