WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (April 26)

4. Depressing Wrestling Stat!

Part of writing a good story is letting the audience experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat alongside their heroes. Good guys must lose now and then, so we can rally around them when they get another shot or go for revenge. In wrestling, you would expect that babyfaces and heels would win about 50/50 to make things even. Or, since the sport is pre-determined, you could give the faces a few more victories just to keep the audience happy. But making the good guys win over 90% of the time? That€™s horrible storytelling and boring to watch. Let€™s go back the past 27 weeks and look at the main events of SmackDown. In that final match, the heels have an abysmal, embarrassing, win/loss/no contest record of 2-23-2. The bad guys lose almost 12 times more than they win! Shouldn't that actually make the heels the faces since they€™re such pathetic underdogs? With Brock Lesnar gone, there€™s no legitimate heels in all of WWE. Rollins is a coward (even though he€™s great in the role), Kane and Big Show are big pushovers, Luke Harper always loses (he€™s won one singles match on Raw and SmackDown in the past four months), Bray Wyatt can€™t defeat top level opponents, and Rusev€™s gimmick is 30 years past its expiration date. Where would Luke Skywalker be without Darth Vader? Can you imagine Batman without Joker? How about Steve Austin without Vince McMahon? The point is, the bad guys have to win sometimes. They need to win some minor battles in the war. WWE doesn€™t let that happen, and it makes their product suffer for it.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
