WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (August 16)
5. Who Are These People?
This week on Impact Wrestling we saw the anticipated kickoff (well, for Dixie Carter and Jeff Jarrett) to the Global Force Wrestling vs. TNA storyline. You may not belive it, but it didnt go well. First off, from a storyline point, why are some of the wrestlers aligned with GFW? Sonjay Dutt, and Lei'D Tapa were both former competitors on Impact, and yet no word on why theyve decided to switch brands. Better health insurance? Most importantly, how can you do a TNA vs. GFW story when almost nobody that fans identify with TNA is involved? No Bully Ray, Austin Aries, A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, MVP, Magnus, Sting, or James Storm. And GFW is filled with released WWE talent. Are fans really going to take it personally if the former Justin Gabriel pins Jesse Godderz? Context is important to making us care, and we werent given any of that for the wrestlers who appeared on Impact. Trevor Lee and Brian Myers were impressive in the ring, but Josh Matthews and The Pope didnt lay out who they were and what makes them special. Just two dudes showing up and taking a loss. Just a lousy, confusing mess to start a promotional war. But hey, its still better than the WCW Invasion of the WWF.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
