I dont want to sound like an old, out of touch wrestling fan who tells the fans what they should and should not do while theyre in the crowd...actually, yes, Im going to do that right now. Yell, scream, cheer, dress up, and dance all you want, but stop it with the What? chants people! Or, save them for someone like Roman Reigns, then its totally cool, and still kind of funny. But A.J. Styles? On Mondays Raw, Styles finally delivered a lengthy promo in front of an arena of WWE fans. A moment that was years in the making, something that fans dreamed of for so long. But everything he said was greeted by the tired What? chants. DAMMIT. That thing is 15 years old! Let it go! It probably doesnt bode well for him being portrayed as a top star in the company if fans are more interested in pretending they dont hear what he says, than actually listening to the content of his promo. Even over in TNA this week, Tyrus received the "What?" chant in England. Its a worldwide epidemic! How is it that good booking and the creation of new stars has not endured since the end of the Attitude Era, but that stupid catchphrase has?
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
