Since I write about wrestling every week, I tend to look at it in a strange way. Im fascinated by numbers like wins and losses and match times, and also, how long one wrestler holds himself in place to take a finishing move for. In the case of Monday nights six-man tag with the League of Nations vs. Neville and The Lucha Dragons, that answer would be 14 seconds. Almost every finishing move is ridiculous in its own way. Have you ever tried to powerbomb a co-worker? Its not that easy! Besides getting a written warning for putting their head underneath your crotch, its going to be difficult to lift them above your head without their cooperation. However, theres just a certain amount of suspension of disbelief you have to buy into for wrestling. But this week, Sin Cara and Alberto Del Rio crossed the line! Del Rios finisher needs to go. What was wrong with the Cross Arm Breaker anyway? His new one (Im naming The Double Stomp Reality Breaker Garbagefest) requires the wrestler taking the move to hold themselves in place under their own strength while Del Rio jumps off the top rope. If they arent doing a sit up while caught in the turnbuckle, the move wont work. On Raw, Sin Cara was kicked in between the ring ropes, and conveniently held himself perfectly in place while Del Rio walked over to the turnbuckle, climbed it, took a moment to balance himself, and then taunted before jumping! An entire, ridiculous 14 seconds. All Sin Cara had to do was NOT keep his arms on the top rope. Had he let go, he would have fell, and Del Rio would have had nothing to do. When something takes that much time and effort on both wrestlers' parts, it's time to find a new finisher. How about a bearhug? Time to kick out. What was your wrestling moment of the week? Sound off below!
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
