6. The Botched Royal

WWE sure is taking a weird route in giving us Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyatt (or toss Luke Harper into the mix) at WrestleMania. Instead of locking in the match early, we’re taking a bunch of detours and the latest one didn’t make sense on a number of levels.

Daniel Bryan is the man of the people, and he’s all about giving people opportunities. Now what if, WHAT IF Mojo Rawley had won the SmackDown battle royal the same way Darren Young once got an opportunity against The Miz, in that the other finalists threw themselves out? Mojo vs. Wyatt? Is that what you want to gift the world Bryan?

The point is, Mojo, Kalisto, Apollo Crews and even Luke Harper shouldn’t have been in the match in the first place. Harper just lost to Randy Orton in clean fashion and hasn’t won a singles match since Nov. From any sort of storyline standpoint, American Alpha would have a better claim to being in the royal than half the entrants, because they actually win now and then. The match exposed how thin SmackDown's roster is, and kind of made a joke of how random getting an opportunity in the WrestleMania main event is. You don't have to work hard, you just have to win a 2-on-1 handicap match.

The other big issue was, of course, the ending. Harper wasn’t even close to landing at the same time as Styles, and it was so obvious that they couldn’t cover it up from any angle. It makes the company look silly for not acknowledging that fact. They think we're a bunch of fools with bad eye sight!

There was another aspect to the match that drove me nuts even more...

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
