A lot of times the real life storylines of professional wrestlers dont have a happy ending. For every John Cena, who is poised to walk away with millions of dollars and most of his health in tact, there are dozens who more closely resemble some form of Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. Just recently, Sean OHaire, who seemed to have all the potential in the world, ended up taking his own life in his early 40s. While the tale of Jesse Sorensen retiring at the age of 25 isnt quite so depressing, its not a tale to tell while tucking your children or grandmother in at night. In 2012, Sorensen suffered a neck injury that ended his in-ring career in TNA. Dixie Carter supposedly offered him a job there for life, and he then worked in the office while recuperating. While on TV, he claimed he was making $30,000 a year, which is absurd for someone who was seen by over a million people per week. He was then fired from his office job and fans were pissed. Sorensen competed on the indy scenes for awhile, and a return to TV someday would have been the feel good story of the year. Doesnt look like its going to happen. While very few people walk away for good at such a young age, its just a sad reminder that his once promising career will now just be remembered for his harsh treatment in the business.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
