WWE And TNA: 7 Worst Moments Of The Week (Oct 8)
3. Heels Fighting Cancer
Baron Corbin, Maryse, The Miz, Dana Brooke, Charlotte and Titus O'Neil have all joined forces to take on one common enemy: cancer.
Cancer sucks big time. It's pretty much the worst thing. So the occasional video supporting fighting the disease during WWE programming is a noble use of time. Well, except that Stephanie McMahon gave up the entire gig with one amazingly inept Tweet last year:
So if we look beyond her worst Tweet of all-time, can we at least question why the evil characters of a scripted television show are written in a virtuous way?
When Titus O'Neil walks to the ring, we're supposed to go "Look at that goon, he thinks he's so great with his Titus Brand, why I sure hope someone teaches him a lesson and shuts him up!" Not "Hey, that man is wearing a shirt supporting cancer research What a nice guy...hey, why the hell is someone beating that man up?"
I just will never, ever wrap my head around it. No other TV show scripts their bad guys to wear pink ribbons and cancer awareness shirts and appear in charity videos. Where does the company draw the line? Bray Wyatt doesn't wear any pink...I'm assuming Brock Lesnar would not, as it would not fit their acts...pretty much like it doesn't for every bad person on the show.
Again, cancer sucks, but there is absolutely zero to be gained from having a heel wear a ribbon. Showing them as kind human beings damages the narrative, and breaks the fourth wall...which makes it a worse show...which in effect means less people watch WWE's "philanthropy" efforts in the future.
