Multiple times this year Ive wrote about Raws rating essentially reaching a new low. Well, now theyve travelled back nearly two decades in time, not just in the quality of the program, but in viewership. This weeks show drew a pathetic 2.33 rating. One year ago at this time they did a 2.83. That is hundreds of thousands of fans rejecting WWEs flagship show, and finding something else to do on Monday nights. The overall product is flat, boring, overexposed, too reliant on aging stars, and creatively bankrupt. The Divas Revolution has been a failure, potential top star Kevin Owens has been given up on, top babyfaces like Ryback and Roman Reigns are lame, no one wants to listen to JBL, Michael Cole and Byron Saxton for 12 hours a month, and someone needs to teach Tamina Snuka how to wrestle (okay, so that last one probably doesnt have an effect on the ratings, but it needed to be noted). How bad will things have to get before someone has the guts to tell Vince McMahon that his product stinks, that his inability to plan, and his terrible sense of humor is turning away huge numbers of fans? Say what you will about Vince Russo, but he once had the guts to do that. Can they hire him back just for one night to say it to his face again?
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
