Wrestling is in a weird spot right now. I'm trying to imagine myself as a kid watching the WWF and seeing The Ultimate Warrior getting screwed out of the title by Sgt. Slaughter, and instead of the crowd booing his villainous actions, they cheer Sarge for finally winning the championship after all his years in the company. How do kids these days process the good/evil dichotomy? Are we simply too cool to boo anymore? Will someone please think of the children?

Fans have known for decades that wrestling wasn’t real. But they could suspend their disbelief during the show and largely cheer the faces and boo the heels. I'm not blaming the customers here, as WWE has done a ridiculously awful job of positioning who to root again, and giving us a solid reason why.

I also understand that fans are happy that someone they’ve followed for the past decade reached the top of the business. But the way Owens won was dumb. Yeah, just dumb. Once again, it’s Triple H that the big angle revolves around, and Owens gets to play the pawn to his mighty King.

Had Owens even rolled-up his opponents and used the ropes for leverage, or just low-blowed everyone, he would at least have performed a physical action to win. But his boss/father figure did it all for him and handed him the gold. It was like Darren Young getting a shot at the Intercontinental Title after his remaining opponents threw each other out of the ring. How well did that work for his credibility?

I’m happy for Owens that he’s given a bigger opportunity, but I wish the opportunity wasn’t to be Hunter’s newest teenage son.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
