On the same thread of 'first ever', AJ Styles managed to become WWE World Champion for the first time in his career. This is not an accomplishment that anybody could have predicted with any accuracy, but it happened at Backlash. Despite being a villain, Styles was treated kindly by an audience who realise just how much he deserves the title.

JBL harped on after the match about Styles hitting a low blow on Dean Ambrose before his Styles Clash finisher, but that's not a problem. After all, AJ is a heel, he's supposed to cheat. That's what good heels do, take any shortcut they can to get ahead, and it works for Styles in this instance.

AJ Styles joins a list of men not many pro wrestling enthusiasts believed would ever get to WWE, let alone win the biggest title in the organisation. Just like guys along the lines of Kevin Owens, Finn Balor and Daniel Bryan, AJ has upset the odds to sit on top of the WWE mountain.

That, if nothing else, is unashamedly awesome for those who have followed his career.
