When the SmackDown Tag-Team Titles were announced by the brand's General Manager Daniel Bryan, it seemed impossible to envision anyone but American Alpha holding them first. Circumstances dictated that this could never happen, meaning WWE officials had a decision to make. That choice was between three teams, The Usos, Hype Bros and the odd pairing of Heath Slater and Rhyno.

In the end, management plumped for the latter, and it proved to be an immensely popular decision. Overcoming Jimmy and Jey Uso in the final match of the tag tournament, Slater and Rhyno looked overjoyed to have bagged the titles as a duo. Fans joined in on the happiness, greeting the win with rapturous cheers.

There was a party atmosphere in the building when Slater crawled over following a Rhyno Gore to nab the victory by pinfall. Together, Rhyno and Heath have a strangely charming appeal, and they deserve the chance to further develop as SmackDown Tag-Team Champions.

If nothing else, this is something Slater can always point to in promos. He can rightly boast about being the first ever for these belts.
