WWE Backlash 2016: 10 Shocks That Could Happen
6. Carmella Becomes First Ever SmackDown Women's Champ
Looking at the field for the SmackDown Women's Title bout, there are obviously those who seem more eligible than others as the first champion. For a start, Becky Lynch has worked diligently to prove herself on the main roster, and fully deserves a run. Elsewhere, Nikki Bella and Natalya have both held gold in the promotion before.
This leaves Alexa Bliss, Naomi and Carmella as the complete underdogs. A rank outsider, Carmella had to be turned heel recently, largely due to the fact that her female take on the characters of Enzo Amore and Big Cass just wasn't connecting with audiences. It'd be a head-turner if the fresh villain left as the new SmackDown Women's Champion.
That said, it'd also feel like a missed opportunity if Bella was handed the belt. This is the perfect chance to offer something new, allowing someone else to forge ahead as the face of women on SmackDown. Carmella fits the bill for that, WWE are clearly very high on her and think she has a bright future.
Still, she'd have to be considered the most unlikely to win before the show.
