WWE Backlash 2016: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

8. Mauro Ranallo Helping Out David Otunga

It's easy for wrestling fans to sit back and criticise every little aspect of commentary on WWE programming, but it's fair to imagine that being an announcer for the company isn't an easy task. That's why David Otunga deserves the chance to develop, he's fairly new to the gig. It takes time to iron out all of the kinks, just ask Michael Cole.

Otunga has one thing helping his cause, he sits beside one of the most dynamic announcers to hit the WWE scene in years. Mauro Ranallo is well-studied, dramatic at the right moments and really gets the need for in-ring focus during matches. In short, he's a wonderful complement to Otunga.

JBL is regularly on autopilot these days, he takes care of himself on commentary. Subtly, Ranallo made sure to hammer home some of the points David Otunga made during Backlash, accentuating their importance and putting over the things he said.

Compare this to the days when someone like Jerry Lawler would bury Matt Striker's words, and it's a world of difference.
