WWE Backlash 2016: Ranking Every Match From Worst To Best
1. Intercontinental Title: The Miz (c) Vs. Dolph Ziggler
Result: Miz nails the Skull-Crushing Finale to retain the title (18:22).
Rating: This must've been a tough one to book considering that Miz losing would kill his hot streak after punking out Bryan, but Ziggler's been pathetically booked for a long time and really needs to be given something.
It was both distracting and amusing that the match appeared to begin with a direct imitation of the Punk/Gall UFC fight the night before.
After they got that out of their system, this was a surprisingly strong encounter with Miz putting on one of his best ever ring performances, making good on the Bryan controversy by pulling from his move set. It was especially entertaining hearing how much the crowd got behind Miz, even chanting "Let's go Miz".
These two had great chemistry and everything from the build to the in-ring storytelling was really strong, while it was smartly allowed to run long. The shenanigans ending was slightly disappointing given how well Miz fought, but it made sense for his character and was still a terrific match.
And seriously, Miz in the Match of the Night? What dimension are we in?
8/10
