Ever since they've been on WWE programming together, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have been cast as rivals. Even back in NXT, the pair were at loggerheads, but there's been a simple story running coherently throughout the entire issue. Namely, Zayn and Owens used to be best friends, but now both have grievances with the other and have rarely taken the time to talk them out.

WWE could really be onto something here, because it'd blur the lines between heel and babyface familiarities if they went in a certain direction. Fighting like crazy to beat the other man, they have lost sight of their friendship.

Picture the scene. Zayn and Owens duke it out manfully at Battleground, eerily reading what the other man will do before it even happens. Eventually, Zayn somehow manages to pick up the win, but they share a look of respect.

Unthinkably, Owens then reaches out for a handshake. Distrusting at first, Sami goes along with it, and they leave it there. There's no more violence, no more punching, just shared admiration.

That would be quite the surprise, but it keeps the story open-ended.
