WWE Battleground 2017: Best Booking Scenarios For Each Match
3. Owens Regains His Title
Kevin Owens' "Face of America" shtick is excellent, despite the fact that he's lost the WWE United States Championship twice, and only held the belt for 94 days total.
AJ Styles capturing the gold at Madison Square Garden was a great moment, but it's hard not to be cynical of the true reasons here. Styles needed a final highlight for his DVD, and Kenny Omega had just become the inaugural IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion only five days prior.
WWE's secondary titles are in constant danger of being used as props. That's definitely a higher risk with Styles than it is with Owens.
The feud between the two has been great thus far, but there will always be the nagging worry that both deserve better things. Kevin Owens is a smart choice to bring prestige back to both the championship and himself following a lackluster main event run in 2016. Styles, on the other hand, needs to return to the main event where he belongs.
Besides, other legitimate midcard heels that could compete for the title aren't in high supply at the moment. The face side, on the other hand, has Tye Dillinger, Chad Gable, and Sami Zayn.
With Randy Orton a bore and John Cena leaving at the drop of a hat, SmackDown Live needs a new top face to take a crack at the WWE Championship. As he proved in 2016, AJ Styles is the perfect man for the job.
