WWE Battleground 2017: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best

3. United States Title: AJ Styles (c) Vs. Kevin Owens

Result: Owens and AJ end up in a double pin, but the ref gives Owen the W and the title (17:50).

Rating: Well, this was easily the most intriguing match on paper, and therefore the most disappointing. Where to begin? There were too many headlocks from Owens, the pacing was super flat throughout, and neither Styles nor Owens seemed to be putting in the usual effort you expect from them.

It was all compounded by a howlingly awful finish: a totally unnecessary ref bump complete with terrible acting and timing from the ref, before a ridiculous slow-count made AJ look like an absolute tool.

Last year AJ did a fantastic job looking fantastic in multiple PPV defeats, but here he gave surely his worst WWE PPV performance yet, aided by the dopey ring awareness of the ref. Yuck. 5/10
