5. Lesnar vs. Kingston Shows Squash Matches Can Still Work

There was a time when squash matches were the norm on WWF/WWE TV. Tuning into any of the promotion's programming in the 1980's and early 90's usually meant seeing 'enhancement' matches galore, bouts specifically designed to make the star name look better.

Somewhere along the line, they have largely been phased out, in favour of more competitive matches that are laid out to make each performer look equal to the other. This is understandable, because it could admittedly be a little dull to see bouts that were in effect a complete formality.

However, Brock Lesnar's utter destruction of Kofi Kingston and The New Day in Japan directly showed that squash contests do still have a place in the industry. Realistically, Kingston didn't stand a chance in this one, but nobody expected him to, this was simply a showcase of Lesnar for the Japanese fans.

It worked a treat, and the announcers played up the fact that Brock could be about to do the same to WWE Champion Seth Rollins at the upcoming Battleground show. This was simple, perfect storytelling.
