Asuka and Kairi Sane are your brand new WWE Women's Tag-Team Champions - the pair toppled Katana Chance and Kayden Carter on this week's go home edition of SmackDown before Royal Rumble 2024.

Most fans saw a title switch coming ahead of time. Chance and Carter were handed some fleeting vignettes to sell them as fun-loving babyfaces, but the reunited Kabuki Warriors looked like clear favourites heading into this week's bout.

Damage CTRL (including Bayley) celebrated at the base of the ramp following the match, and there can be little doubting the titles mean more around the waists of Asuka and Sane. They've got a heavier presence generally on WWE TV than their predecessors.

Now, Asuka and Kairi are free to wrestle on Raw, SmackDown and NXT whenever they wish.

Katana and Kayden held the titles for 39 days after beating Chelsea Green and Piper Niven on the 18 December episode of Raw. It's worth mentioning that this is Asuka's fourth run with the belts and Sane's second.

The Kabuki Warriors held those straps together between October 2019-March 2020 before losing to Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross at WrestleMania 36.
