WWE Clash Of Champions 2016: 10 Things WWE Got Right
3. Lana's Interference In The WWE United States Title Situation
Rewind to SummerSlam, and the scheduled WWE United States Title showdown between Roman Reigns and Rusev didn't even take place. Reigns ambushed the champion before the match got underway, meaning Clash Of Champions benefited from being able to present the match as a relatively fresh one.
Reigns often struggles to garner the required reaction befitting a top babyface from live crowds, so Lana was used as a crucial plot device on the pay-per-view. Just as it looked like Roman was going to beat her husband, the 'Ravishing Russian' pulled the referee from the ring and was therefore banned from ringside for the rest of the bout.
The fact Rusev caved as soon as Lana departed puts over her importance to his act. Fans were left with the impression that the blonde would not have allowed Reigns to beat her man, but that she was powerless to do anything once barred from the ringside area.
Ideally, heels should always look to cheat desperately whenever they can. That's a villainous, unlikeable trait after all. Lana's constant interruptions went a long way to ensuring that Roman's eventual win was greeted more favourably.
