WWE: CM Punk - 5 Awesome Matches And 5 That Sucked

3. CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan - Over The Limit 2012

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7siDkVMvRY There is no doubt that when it came to matches, the first half of 2012 saw CM Punk at his most consistent as a performer. Not only did he have great matches with Jericho, he reignited his feud with John Cena as well as also having a great Rumble match with Dolph Ziggler. But if one was to pick one match that exemplified exactly how well Punk was during this time period, it would have to be the match with Daniel Bryan at Over the Limit that not only created a masterpiece, but also managed to move Bryan up to the next echelon of superstars. It's bizarre then to remember that when it came to an actual feud, the Over the Limit match was rather thin on the ground compared to the personal feud of Jericho/Punk but what they did have instead was ring chemistry that was built out of the experience of wrestling each other for a decade as well as being two of the former head trainers in Ring of Honour. With that in mind, it was a match that was able to draw upon the strengths of both men's unique wrestling background to tell a great story, with an ending that not only ensured that CM Punk walked away with the title, but one that also made Daniel Bryan look unlucky and therefore made him look stronger in the process. In fact if one was to point to the moments that made Daniel Bryan become more than just a upper midcarder, this would be one of the big turning points. Their rematch was very good too, but the addition of AJ Lee almost was a distraction that in the end was not worth having. This match on the other hand was a viable match of the year candidate. Brilliantly told by both men and one that allowed the WWE to see that the audience was clamouring for more than just Five Moves of Doom.
