"CM Punk may still be playing everyone," is a direct quote from Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com on today's Wrestling Observer Radio. The respected insider points out that the continuing silence right now makes no sense. It could be a condition of negotiations in terms of Punk not breaching his contract, but the silence makes no sense on the other side. The way circumstances are leaves the door still wide open for a comeback to happen, with Meltzer pointing out that the company might have avoided doing a return in Chicago due to the predictability factor. WWE has form for this, Meltzer references 2005 when Chris Jericho was widely expected to return at a show, so they changed plans and held it off. Could WWE have done with this Punk? While a Chicago return would have been great it would also make sense that they take all the buzz of his predicted return and then get another week worth of buzz from a shock return should he comeback in Memphis Raw next week. As Bryan Alvarez states about Chicago Raw "they played it brilliantly." Alvarez also predicts that Vince McMahon is desperate for Punk to come back, which is the reason they didn't bury the star. Meltzer states that it makes no sense for WWE to have booked Raw the way it was, making Punk a focused star when he isn't with the company. Fans can make their own conclusions from these insider comments, but despite all seemingly being lost following the Chicago Raw, a CM Punk return in 2014 is still a distinct possibility.
