With Roman out of the equation WWE are going to want to pull the trigger on a Rollins/Ambrose feud quick-smart. More than that though, they’re going to want this to be a potential main-event angle for the coming months. The problem there is that both men have spent so long in the mid-card and playing second-fiddle to The Big Dog that they need to do something to make this feel top-tier.

Having Rollins win the World Cup helps him do that, sure, but having him almost win it only for Ambrose to cost him at the last does considerably more for both men. Plus it’s a way to get him on the show, given that he was a weird omission in the first place.
