WWE Cruiserweight Champions: Ranked From Worst To Best
3. The Hurricane/Gregory Helms
Gregory Helms is the longest-reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion ever, his combined three reigns lasting a whopping 532 days. He won his first CW title at Greed, WCW's final pay-per-view before they were purchased by Vince McMahon and the WWF. His first WWE Cruiserweight Title reign would come over a year later, only this time it wouldn't be as Shane Helms.
Instead it was The Hurricane, Helms' relatively new superhero gimmick, that would hold the gold. Hurricane beat Tajiri and Billy Kidman in a triple threat match on the May 16th, 2002 episode of Smackdown. His reign would end up being a short one, however, as he was bested by the incoming Jamie Noble at King of the Ring just 40 days later.
Helms would have to wait three-and-a-half years to regain the title - though he did enjoy two World Tag Team Title reigns in the interim. Ditching the mask and cape and now going by Gregory Helms, he moved over from Raw to Smackdown and shockingly won the belt in a cruiserweight open at the 2006 Royal Rumble.
That was the beginning of a 385-day-long run that saw Helms defend the title on pay-per-view against everyone from Jimmy Wang Yang to Super Crazy. He also fought in a couple of Champion Vs. Champion bouts opposite World Heavyweight Champ Rey Mysterio and US Title man Chris Benoit.
Helms and his 8,000 neckbreaker variations made for a good champion, even if it would have been nice to see him get a little bit more creative direction than just 'go out there and have a match and make it good'. He's the longest-reigning Cruiserweight Champ ever, regardless, and most of his matches from that time were good.
