WWE CWC: 10 Things We Learned From The First Episode
9. Very Much About Nationalities
But Triple H’s presence wasn’t the only thing we were reminded
of early on in the show.
That very same promo package drew attention to the international flavour of the CWC—specifically the total of 16 countries that were represented by the 32 participants.
And as the show marched on, this multiculturalism remained a prominent feature. Each Cruiserweight had their national flag plastered on the titantron for all to see and even Corey Graves had the United States mentioned in his on-screen nameplate.
It was a good balance of acknowledging each wrestler’s heritage—and therefore adding to the more sporting aesthetic—but without completely transforming the tournament into a World Cup of sorts.
Besides, TNA have already experimented with a similar concept, and we all know that the WWE would never steal an idea from TNA.
