WWE CWC: 10 Things We Learned From The First Episode
8. Lots Of Elements Have Been Borrowed
Joking aside, though, there were clearly a number of elements
of the CWC that were borrowed from further afield.
For starters, the build-up has seen the use of a seemingly legitimate weigh-in process—something clearly adopted from the UFC. And there were further elements from the world of MMA, not to mention Japan and Mexico, in last night’s debut CWC episode.
We saw the introduction of pre-match handshakes, the post-match decision announcements and of course the featuring of sponsors—such as the Tap Out logo—in each corner of the mat.
Though each of these inclusions were relatively subtle, they really helped add to that professional presentation, and in some cases they were even used as storytelling devices.
Slowly but surely, the WWE is becoming more open to acknowledging that there’s a big wide world of wrestling out there. Borrowing elements from other promotions—and indeed other industries—is just one of many signs of this, making for a much more diverse and enjoyable product.
