WWE: Does Pro Wrestling Need Mystery in Storylines?

So if well guarded mystery debuts work for singles Wrestlers, does this translate to reveals of mystery tag partners? Perhaps the most famous occurrence of this, Hulk Hogan joining the nWo, would suggest keeping the mystery in tag partners can be just as successful as singles combatants. On the flip side however, you have a moment like the Shockmaster debuting as a mystery partner in WCW in 1993, which could be seen as close to evening the scales when it comes to the success/fail ratio in this situation. Granted, the Shockmaster was somewhat of a unique case due to just how horribly wrong everything went with the reveal of that particular character. Watching it today will still bring a chorus of laughter from any fan, whether it be down to the fall or the glitter covered Stormtrooper helmet. I digress... Partner mystery reveals do seem to have more of a success overall. Owen Hart revealed Yokozuna as is mystery partner at Wrestlemania XI, and the team beat the Smoking Gunns for the WWF Tag Team Championships in the match up following. With Yoko having not been seen on WWF programming since Survivor Series the previous year, this was a surprise reveal and fans responded to the former WWF Champion being the man Hart had chosen. With the success rate of surprise debuts and mystery partner reveals being generally high, it would seem mystery angles do indeed have a place on Professional Wrestling TV. It seems however that when angles tend to go down the 'Who Done It?' route things tend to become a little less well received...
