WWE Establishes New Number One Contender On SmackDown
One half of WWE's Clash At The Castle main event was revealed on SmackDown.
Drew McIntyre has officially been confirmed as the number one contender for WWE's Undisputed Title heading into September's Clash At The Castle event.
The big Scot beat old pal Sheamus in what was billed as an "Irish Donnybrook" match on Friday's episode of SmackDown - both men beat the living hell out of one another (which is always fun) before Drew put his peer down for the count with a Claymore Kick.
Interestingly enough, McIntyre showed some remorse before nailing Sheamus with the final blow. Afterwards, he was attacked with the Money In The Bank briefcase by 'Mr. MITB' Theory. That fed into what happened at the end of SmackDown.
There, Drew gained revenge on Theory before staring down a rampaging Brock Lesnar. WWE's main goal here was clearly to sell the idea that McIntyre vs. Lesnar could be the main event in the UK, not Drew vs. Roman Reigns.
Of course, that all hinges on what happens this Saturday night at SummerSlam. Brock and Roman are lined up for a 'Last Man Standing' blowoff to their lengthy feud. The winner meets McIntyre in Wales on 3 September.
