Matches involving more than two competitors usually break down into one-on-one scenarios after a few minutes in WWE. Then, those involved routinely take turns switching in and out of the ring. Sometimes, this can even come across as awkward, especially when wrestlers take an unrealistic amount of time to recover from simple bumps or moves.

From the off, the Fatal-4-Way for the WWE Intercontinental Title had a special atmosphere. Michael Cole claimed the bout was the one he was looking forward to most, and the New Jersey crowd were lively as soon as each man had made his entrance.

No sooner had the bell started ringing than Sami Zayn sprinted across the ring and planted a big boot on Kevin Owens. This removed him from the opening stretch, and Cesaro responded by dumping The Miz out of the ring.

Straight away, fans were treated to a unique way to kick off such an occasion. The oh-so-familiar scrapping and traded blows didn't occur between the quartet from the start, and that was a refreshing twist on a match type that has an established formula.
